Paris (HRNW)- French President Emmanuel Macron has emphasized the need for continued diplomatic engagement with Iran, saying political and diplomatic efforts are necessary to help reduce regional tensions and restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. France has publicly supported diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the crisis and reopening the strategic waterway.
Macron has maintained that the Strait of Hormuz should be reopened through diplomatic means and in accordance with international law. France has also worked with other countries on proposals aimed at protecting commercial navigation and restoring safe passage through the waterway.
The French position comes as contacts between Iran and the United States have intensified on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Reuters reported that Washington and Tehran have been conducting mediated discussions, while Iran has indicated that easing US military pressure and lifting the naval blockade are among the issues linked to reopening the strait.
Iran has conveyed conditions for resuming broader negotiations, including an end to hostilities, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and the lifting of the US naval blockade. Pakistan and Qatar have been involved in diplomatic mediation between Tehran and Washington.
Macron has also said France is working with international partners to facilitate a peaceful reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and secure energy supplies. The French government has discussed additional international measures to protect maritime navigation as disruptions to the waterway continue to affect global energy markets.
The latest diplomatic efforts come amid continuing military tensions involving Iran, the United States, and regional actors, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major focus because of its importance to international energy and commercial shipping.
