Islamabad (HRNW)- The government is considering a proposal to introduce a four-day workweek with three days off across public and private sectors as part of efforts to reduce fuel consumption and national expenditures amid rising petroleum costs.
According to private media reports citing sources, the proposal originated at the federal level and could apply to government and private offices, schools, colleges, and universities across the country.
Sources said a meeting discussed keeping institutions completely closed for three days each week to reduce spending on fuel, electricity, and administrative operations. Under the proposed system, some employees could work from offices while others may be allowed to work from home.
Relevant departments have reportedly been directed to prepare a revised work schedule and standard operating procedures for the proposed arrangement. The final attendance mechanism would be determined after an official government notification.
The proposal is being considered as a measure to reduce the impact of rising petroleum costs and conserve financial resources. However, no official approval has been issued so far, and no formal notification has been released, meaning the four-day workweek remains under consideration.
Authorities are expected to clarify the policy and its implementation mechanism through an official notification should the proposal be approved.
