PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Stronger Democratic Values

Islamabad (HRNW): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on International Day of Democracy, said the occasion provides an opportunity to reaffirm commitment to democratic values, equality, justice, freedom, respect for public opinion, human dignity and the rule of law.

The Prime Minister said powers in a democratic system are exercised through elected representatives for public welfare, while Parliament remains the central democratic institution representing the people.

He highlighted the constitutional guarantee of equality under Article 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan and stressed the importance of legislation that responds to changing circumstances and public needs.

Shehbaz Sharif also emphasized women’s participation in political institutions and the protection of the rights and interests of minorities, noting their representation in federal and provincial legislatures.

He said Pakistan fully supports democratic principles at the international level and is committed to efforts aimed at promoting peace, justice, strong institutions and sustainable development.

The Prime Minister called for a renewed collective commitment to strengthening democratic values, protecting citizens’ fundamental rights and building a prosperous future for the country.
