Islamabad (HRNW)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the government to make export growth a central pillar of Pakistan’s economic development and take measures to accelerate economic growth.
Chairing a review meeting on exports and economic expansion, the Prime Minister called for greater participation of industries beyond traditional export sectors and urged the identification of additional sectors capable of competing in global markets.
Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to improve the quality of Pakistani products, strengthen quality assurance systems, and ensure compliance with international standards and regulations. He also emphasized greater value addition to increase the competitiveness and market value of Pakistani exports.
The Prime Minister called for greater use of modern technology, research, innovation, and digitalization in export-oriented industries. He further ordered the removal of administrative and business hurdles faced by exporters and called for a simpler, faster, and more transparent export process.
Officials briefed the meeting on progress under the government’s strategic roadmap for export promotion, including plans to access new international markets, diversify export sectors, improve product quality, and facilitate businesses.
The meeting was also informed about efforts to secure Free Trade Agreements and preferential trade arrangements with friendly countries. Work is also underway to expand the export basket by including Pakistani horticultural products.
Officials said Pakistani exporters are being encouraged to participate in international hospital tenders and procurement processes to increase exports of surgical and medical instruments. Sector-specific exhibitions, including TEXPO, the Health, Engineering and Minerals Show, and FoodAg, are also being organized to showcase Pakistani products to international buyers.
The government is also working to modernize intellectual property laws to support innovation, while the restructuring of the Export Development Fund has been completed. The fund is taking measures to facilitate the business community and strengthen export development.
