Vilnius (HRNW)- NATO fighter aircraft have shot down a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace, according to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.
In a post on X, Nausėda said the drone was destroyed shortly after entering Lithuania’s airspace and described such preparedness as essential for the region amid Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
Citing preliminary information from Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Centre, the country’s national broadcaster LRT reported that the drone was shot down near the village of Pratkūnai in southern Lithuania, close to the country’s second-largest city, Kaunas.
The drone reportedly entered Lithuania from neighboring Belarus and was traveling west. Earlier, authorities had issued a drone alert for Vilnius and surrounding areas.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister said the incident demonstrated allied unity and a firm response, sending a message that NATO remains vigilant, determined, and prepared to respond to potential threats.
