Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump has nominated Republican Congressman and former US military officer Wesley Hunt as the next US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
According to AFP, Hunt’s nomination has been submitted to the US Senate, which must vote to confirm his appointment. The post of US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia has remained vacant.
Hunt previously served in the US Army and was deployed in the Middle East. He also worked as a diplomatic liaison in Saudi Arabia for approximately two years.
Commenting on his nomination, Hunt said his military service in the region and diplomatic experience in Saudi Arabia had given him an understanding of the strategic importance of the partnership between Washington and Riyadh.
He described the ambassadorial position as a significant responsibility and said he looked forward to working toward further strengthening relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia.
