Washington (HRNW)- The US Department of Defense has formally acknowledged significant losses in ammunition and strategic military stockpiles resulting from its conflict with Iran, according to a newly released report by the Pentagon’s Office of the Inspector General.
The report covers the period from February 28 through the end of June and estimates the total cost of US military operations against Iran at approximately $33.4 billion. Military equipment represented the largest share of the expenditure, accounting for around $22.3 billion.
According to the report, ammunition consumption during “Operation Epic Fury” significantly depleted strategic stockpiles and exposed structural bottlenecks in the US defense industry that could slow the rapid replenishment of ammunition inventories.
The findings contrast with the position maintained by the administration of US President Donald Trump in recent months, which had repeatedly rejected concerns over a broader military equipment shortage.
The Inspector General’s report also highlighted efforts by the Defense Department to accelerate industrial production and address shortages, including measures aimed at strengthening the defense industry’s ability to meet increased demand.
The report underscores the logistical and industrial challenges facing the United States as it works to replenish weapons and ammunition consumed during the conflict with Iran.
