KARACHI (HRNW)- As part of its ongoing film festival, the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi screened the inspiring film, “Bishu — the World’s Kindest Clothes”, at the main auditorium of Hamdard University on Tuesday.
A packed audience of students, faculty and staff watched the film with rapt attention, with many applauding towards the end.
The film follows Shiori Kamiya, a shy yet talented girl who struggles in her daily life after losing her mother. Reserved and socially withdrawn, she finds solace in a single close friendship.
Her father, a textile factory owner, becomes overprotective after his wife’s death. As his business begins to decline, Shiori wishes to help, but he refuses to let her take on responsibility. She also faces ridicule at school, compounding her difficulties.
Despite these challenges, Shiori’s creativity shines through. One day, she conceives a striking dress design and sketches it with precision. Encouraged by her friend, she enters and wins a school design competition, prompting her to aim higher at the national level.
Preparing for the national competition requires her to produce the fabric and stitch the garment herself. When her sister — initially meant to model the dress — is injured just before the event, Shiori must overcome her shyness and step forward under pressure.
Ultimately, the film highlights that talent flourishes when recognised, and that determination can transform even the most difficult circumstances into opportunities for success.
The Japanese film festival began in the first week of this month and will end on Sept 29 after screening movies at five university campuses in Karachi. Ends
