UN Warns Terrorist Propaganda Is Outpacing Efforts to Stop It

A new UN report has warned that terrorist groups are increasingly embedding propaganda into recruitment, fundraising and operational planning, allowing extremist messaging to spread faster than governments can respond.

The report says terrorist organizations are adapting their communications strategies and exploiting digital platforms to reach potential supporters, raise money and facilitate activities.

The UN warned that governments and international partners face growing difficulties in keeping pace with rapidly evolving propaganda techniques.

The findings were highlighted by the United Nations on 11 September, as the international community marked 25 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks and renewed attention on preventing terrorism and violent extremism.
