UNICEF Reports Deadly Fire in Bukavu Killed at Least 26 Children

UNICEF has expressed deep concern over a deadly fire in Bukavu, South Kivu, which the agency said broke out on 10 September and killed at least 26 children, while injuring another 25.

The UN children’s agency said it was deeply saddened by the loss of life and extended condolences to families affected by the tragedy.

The fire comes as communities in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo continue to face severe humanitarian pressures linked to conflict, displacement and limited access to essential services.

UNICEF said it remains concerned about the devastating impact of the incident on children and affected families.
