Peshawar (HRNW)- More than 200 Afghan medical students have been identified in Pakistan, while only 22 are registered with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
According to the PMDC, 14 of the 22 registered students have completed their degrees, while the remaining eight are expected to graduate next year. The process of verifying the status and conducting a regulatory review of the remaining 176 students is currently underway.
Authorities clarified that there are no nationality-based restrictions on medical education for foreign students in Pakistan. However, all foreign students are required to fulfill academic, registration, documentation and immigration requirements.
Merely completing a medical degree does not grant foreign graduates the right to reside, work or practice medicine in Pakistan. Those wishing to practice in the country must meet the relevant licensing and registration criteria.
Assistance is being provided to affected students to complete legal formalities and make arrangements for their return in accordance with government policy. Authorities emphasized that no compromise will be made regarding academic standards, legal requirements or patient safety.
