Qingdao (HRNW)- A fire that broke out aboard a cargo ship at China’s Qingdao Port has left at least 20 people dead and five others missing.
According to media reports, the fire erupted aboard the Ocean Melody, which was docked at the port for repairs. A total of 42 people were on board at the time of the incident.
Twelve people were safely rescued, while five injured individuals were transported to a hospital. Their condition has been reported as stable.
The fire started at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time and was brought under control by 2:30 p.m. Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed authorities to intensify search and rescue operations for those still missing.
