Moscow (HRNW)- Russia has announced that it will continue supplying crude oil to India despite threats of US tariffs and possible secondary sanctions. Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov said Moscow is ready to provide India with as much oil as it requires, describing US pressure as merely a pressure tactic.
Russia remains India’s largest crude oil supplier and was reportedly still its top supplier in August 2026. The United States is considering proposals to impose additional tariffs, potentially as high as 100 percent, on countries purchasing Russian oil. Moscow maintains that India is buying Russian crude to meet its own energy needs and protect its national interests, rather than to support Russia.
However, India’s imports of Russian crude reportedly fell by 26 percent in August compared with July due to reduced Russian supplies and increased demand from Chinese refineries.
