Islamabad (HRNW)- The government has formally approved the import of 750,000 metric tons of wheat, with the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) issuing an international tender for the purchase.
According to the TCP, the wheat must be sourced from the latest crop, with offers of at least 50,000 metric tons accepted from international suppliers. The wheat will be delivered on a CFR basis to the ports of Karachi and Gwadar and distributed among provinces according to their requirements.
Of the total quantity, 300,000 tons will be supplied to Sindh, 250,000 tons to Punjab and 200,000 tons to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Bids can be submitted until 11:30 am on September 16 and will be opened at noon the same day.
Pakistan’s annual wheat consumption is estimated at around 31.3 million tons. According to the Economic Survey 2025-26, wheat production stood at 29.61 million tons, while experts estimate that PASSCO held around 17.83 million tons of wheat by the first week of July.
