Moscow (HRNW)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has reportedly supported the possibility of Iran joining the Mecca Mutual Defense Treaty between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, saying such a move could contribute positively to regional security.
According to media reports, Lavrov said the way is open for Iran to become part of the defense arrangement. The current members of the treaty are Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, with a provision that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members.
Pakistani officials have previously indicated that they do not oppose the possible participation of Iran or other countries in the agreement.
The potential expansion of the treaty could have significant implications for regional security and cooperation among Muslim-majority countries.
