Islamabad (HRNW) – Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari has said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is not allowing Pakistan to provide electricity at reduced rates during specific hours.
Speaking at a conference on Battery Storage Flexibility 2026 held in Islamabad, the Federal Energy Minister responded to questions from experts and said that discussions with the IMF regarding this facility have been ongoing for the past several months.
Owais Leghari stated that the government wants to introduce greater flexibility in the power sector so that consumers can potentially benefit from lower electricity rates during certain hours. However, approval for this mechanism is still being discussed with the IMF.
The minister also highlighted the importance of energy sector reforms, improving the electricity system, and adopting modern technologies to enhance efficiency.
