Peshawar (HRNW)- At least 28 people have lost their lives and 29 others have been injured across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since July 19 due to heavy rains and flash floods that caused roofs and walls of houses to collapse and swept people away in floodwaters.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) spokesperson, the deceased include 10 men, 15 children, and 3 women, while the injured comprise 13 men, 9 women, and 7 children. A total of 47 houses were damaged by the rains and floods, including 37 partially damaged and 10 completely destroyed homes.
The incidents were reported from several districts, including Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Upper Kohistan, Tank, Torghar, Kurram, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan.
PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations, and other relevant agencies remain engaged in relief operations. The authority has directed district administrations to immediately provide relief materials and accelerate assistance to affected families.
The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from vulnerable tourist areas, and strictly follow weather alerts and advisories issued by government authorities.
According to the DG PDMA, the Emergency Operation Center is fully operational, and citizens can contact the free helpline 1700 for emergency assistance, weather updates, and information.
