Mobile Services to Be Fully Suspended on 9th and 10th Muharram Amid Tightened Security

QUETTA (HRNW)- The Balochistan provincial capital is implementing strict security measures to ensure peace and safety during the holy month of Muharram.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) City Asif Ghafoor, mobile phone services will be completely suspended across all major urban areas, procession routes, and highly sensitive zones on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The measure has been enacted as a precautionary safeguard against potential terrorist activities and to maintain public safety.

In addition to the mobile network shutdown, a comprehensive security and traffic strategy has been finalized following high-level meetings between the police, provincial government, and intelligence agencies. Key measures include:

  • Enforcement of Bans: A strict ban on pillion riding and the display or carrying of weapons.

  • Targeted Deployment: Heavy police presence deployed at sensitive choke points, including Saryab Road, Sabzal Road, Western Bypass, Spini Road, and Bururi Road.

  • Emergency Services: Essential emergency lines, including ambulances, the fire brigade, and police helplines, will remain fully operational despite the network block.

While local residents and traders acknowledge the temporary communication inconvenience, the measures have been largely welcomed as a necessary step for collective security. The police have strongly urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities or individuals to law enforcement authorities.
