SECP Aims to Expand Investor Base to 2.5 Million Through Digital Stock Market Access

Islamabad (HRNW)- Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Dr. Kabir Sidhu, has said that financial technology will be used to make the stock market accessible to every Pakistani, with a target of increasing the number of investors in the capital market to 2.5 million.

Presiding over a meeting of the Board of Directors and management of the Central Depository Company (CDC), Dr. Kabir Sidhu said that young people will soon be able to invest in the capital market directly through their mobile phones. He added that modern technology is being utilized to make investment opportunities simpler, more accessible, and convenient for ordinary citizens.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the operational performance of the Central Depository Company, cyber security measures, and ongoing digital transformation projects. The proposed mobile application for digital onboarding of stock market investors was also discussed. The app is expected to be launched in July 2026.

The SECP chairman said that the new mobile application will make investing easier, faster, and more secure for users. He noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to increase participation in Pakistan’s capital markets and promote financial inclusion.

The meeting also considered proposals related to the strategic restructuring of the Central Depository Company. Under the proposed plan, CDC’s core depository functions would be separated from its other business activities, including trustee services, to improve operational efficiency and governance.

Dr. Kabir Sidhu reiterated that SECP and CDC will continue working together to modernize Pakistan’s capital markets and provide investors with secure, efficient, and technology-driven financial services.
