Peshawar (HRNW)- An anti-corruption court in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sentenced a former government warehouse in-charge to 13 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 1 million after finding him guilty of embezzling wheat worth millions of rupees from a government warehouse in Chitral.
The case was heard by Special Judge Asif Rashid of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Court. According to the prosecution, accused Abdul Jalil, who served as the in-charge of a government wheat warehouse in the Bomburit area of Chitral, was involved in the disappearance of 214 metric tonnes of wheat stored in the facility.
Investigations revealed that the missing wheat caused a loss of approximately Rs 11.3 million (Rs 1 crore 13 lakh) to the national exchequer. Following an inquiry, anti-corruption authorities registered a case against the accused and initiated formal trial proceedings.
According to the prosecution, Abdul Jalil had secured bail after the registration of the case. However, evidence and official records presented during the trial established his involvement in the embezzlement, leading to his conviction.
The court sentenced the accused to a combined 13 years of imprisonment under different legal provisions and also imposed a total fine of Rs 1 million.
Following the verdict, the anti-corruption court canceled Abdul Jalil’s bail and ordered his immediate arrest. Authorities were subsequently directed to transfer the convicted official to District Jail Swat to serve his sentence.
