Rome (HRNW)- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking during his visit to Italy, stated that Iran will not be allowed to control the Strait of Hormuz under any circumstances, while also claiming that the US Navy has blocked the passage of around 70 Iranian tankers.
In a formal media interview in Rome, Rubio said his meeting with Pope Leo was held in a constructive and cordial atmosphere, during which several important issues were discussed in detail.
He further stated that southern Cuba is not accepting humanitarian aid, while the United States remains ready to provide additional assistance where possible.
Regarding Iran, Rubio said the US is still awaiting Tehran’s response on a proposed agreement, which was expected today but has not yet been received. He expressed hope that Iran would respond seriously and that a path toward negotiations could be opened.
He added that the United States expects Iran to engage in meaningful diplomatic talks. Responding to recent military developments, Rubio clarified that the action taken by the US “has nothing to do with Operation Epic Fury,” and warned that any attack on US forces would be met with a strong response.
He also claimed that US forces were fired upon by Iran in international waters, prompting a response, and said that the US is targeting Iranian high-speed boats. He reiterated that any threat to US forces would face a decisive reaction.
