Riyadh (HRNW)- Reports have emerged claiming that an American surveillance aircraft was shot down during an Iranian missile attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, with alleged images of the incident circulating on social media. According to media sources, the target was a US Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft, known for its advanced radar capabilities and role in monitoring aerial activity over long distances.
Defense experts note that such aircraft are crucial in modern warfare for surveillance, command, and control operations. Former US military officials have stated that if the destruction of the E-3 aircraft is confirmed, it could significantly impact US surveillance capabilities in the Persian Gulf region and influence ongoing tensions.
However, there has been no official confirmation from US or Saudi authorities so far, and experts advise caution and verification before drawing conclusions.
