Islamabad (HRNW) — The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled that no individual can be singled out or categorized on the basis of conversion or religious change. Terms like Bhangi, Chura, and Musali are not identifiers of caste but are derogatory and used for humiliation.
The court emphasized that including caste or community suffixes in police records violates the fundamental principles of the Constitution of Pakistan.
The Supreme Court has instructed all provincial Inspector Generals of Police and the Islamabad Police to ensure that FIRs, arrest memos, seizure reports, and challans do not mention anyone’s caste, community, tribal identity, or religious conversion.
