Karachi (HRNW) – The Chairman of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Pakistan), Afaq Ahmed, held a press conference at his residence, stating that political parties have merely played politics over the Gul Plaza tragedy while the loved ones of the victims remain missing and families continue to wait for government action. He highlighted that the actual number of casualties remains unverified; while the government claims 130 deaths, the real figure is likely much higher as many laborers and shoppers present at the scene are still unaccounted for. He demanded that the government use modern forensic methods to provide accurate information to the public regarding those missing.
Afaq Ahmed further criticized those in power via “Form 47,” alleging they are acting on the orders of their masters by demanding Karachi be handed over to the military. He termed this a conspiracy to divide the Mohajir nation for a third time, which his party categorically rejects. He asserted that a “Karachi Province” is not the desire of the Mohajir people but rather a wish of the Punjabi elite. To counter this, the Mohajir Qaumi Movement will launch a public contact campaign after Eid to demonstrate that the community will accept nothing less than a province based on Urban Sindh. Additionally, he slammed the United People’s Party, questioning why they previously voted in favor of immunity for Zardari if their current protests against the People’s Party are genuine, labeling their current stance a political facade.
