Islamabad (HRNW)- The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has officially postponed the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) elections, originally scheduled for February 14, for an indefinite period. This significant decision was issued following an appeal by Mumtaz Khan Tanoli Advocate, who argued that the Election Board formed under the Sindh Bar Council (SBC) failed to verify voter lists, potentially compromising the transparency of the entire process.
The PBC emphasized that conducting elections without proper verification is both illegal and non-transparent, asserting that the SBC cannot proceed until its own standing orders are fully implemented. Consequently, the SBC has been barred from holding the annual elections while the voter list verification remains ongoing. Furthermore, the PBC has directed the Secretary of the Sindh Bar Council to hand over all voter lists and ballot materials, while the SBC’s administrative committee will remain in charge until the next formal hearing.
