Islamabad (HRNW)- The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued flood alerts for several parts of Pakistan, warning that rainfall expected through September 17, 2026, could lead to rising water levels in rivers and streams and trigger flooding.
According to the NDMA, increased rainfall in northern areas may raise water flows and create flash-flood risks in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Balochistan.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, potential flash-flood conditions have been identified in Gilgit, Diamer, Ghizer, Ishkoman, Gupis-Yasin, Nagar, Hunza, Shimshal, Skardu, and Shigar. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas including Upper Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Malakand, Kurram, Kohistan, Mohmand, and Orakzai are also considered at risk.
The NDMA has warned of possible flooding in Zhob, Sherani, and Musakhel districts of Balochistan, while Islamabad and several urban areas of Punjab—including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Sheikhupura—could also face flood-related risks.
The authority has issued advance alerts to relevant departments and directed them to make necessary preparations. The NDMA’s National Emergency Operation Center is monitoring potential risks and working to ensure timely dissemination of information to authorities and the public.
Citizens have been advised to avoid crossing seasonal drains, submerged roads, bridges, and low-lying routes during heavy rainfall. The public can also access verified weather updates, hazard warnings, and safety guidance through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app.
The NDMA said the 911 helpline can be contacted for assistance during flood-related emergencies.
