Lahore (HRNW)- Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said the government was compelled to provide relief of Rs100 per litre following the party’s campaign against the oppressive petroleum levy, but the struggle will continue until the levy is completely abolished.
In a statement, Hafiz Naeem said the party would review the Prime Minister’s decision to provide Rs100 per litre relief on petrol for motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles. He maintained that the new petrol relief scheme would not affect JI’s campaign against the petroleum levy.
He said the party’s protests, including long marches and sit-ins, would continue until the petroleum levy was withdrawn entirely.
Hafiz Naeem added that JI would announce its detailed position on the Prime Minister’s petrol scheme tonight after reviewing its terms and implications.
