Karachi (HRNW)- A major power breakdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station, caused by a cable fault in the K-Electric system, remains unresolved, resulting in a partial disruption of the water supply to Karachi.
According to a spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, power to various phases of the Dhabeji Pumping Station was suspended at around 6:00 AM on Sunday. The outage affected the Third Phase, Fourth Phase and K-3 pump houses.
The spokesperson said the power failure rendered 10 of the station’s 21 pumps inoperative, disrupting water distribution across Karachi and causing a shortfall of approximately 100 million gallons so far.
K-Electric has started repair work on the damaged cable, while Water Corporation officials are maintaining contact with the power utility’s management to ensure the electricity supply is restored as soon as possible.
Officials said that once power is restored, all 10 affected pumps will be immediately reactivated, followed by measures to bring Karachi’s water supply back to normal levels.
The Water Corporation has appealed to citizens to use water carefully and avoid unnecessary wastage until the situation is fully resolved.
