Karachi (HRNW)- Karachi Port has achieved a historic milestone by handling the highest-ever volume of cargo and containers in its 138-year history, marking a significant development for Pakistan’s maritime trade.
The achievement comes under the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms, with Karachi Port playing a pivotal role in the country’s maritime commerce for more than a century.
During the last fiscal year, cargo throughput at Karachi Port increased from 53 million tonnes to a record 55.8 million tonnes, reflecting a notable rise in maritime activity.
The port also recorded the arrival and departure of 2,115 vessels during the fiscal year, further highlighting its growing role in Pakistan’s international trade.
Officials said disruptions to global shipping routes also created new commercial opportunities for transshipment at Karachi Port.
