Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump has said he has no regrets about his decision to initiate a conflict with Iran, even if the move negatively affects the Republican Party’s performance in the November midterm elections.
According to Reuters, speaking in an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Trump said he would make the same decision again if given the opportunity.
Trump also rejected speculation that his supporters had become disillusioned with the conflict, saying they take pride in his efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The US president reiterated his claim that the conflict with Iran would end immediately after the midterm elections, saying hostilities would conclude following the vote.
According to Reuters, rising oil and gas prices resulting from the conflict have emerged as a major political issue for Republican candidates ahead of the elections.
Trump’s remarks come amid signs of limited public support for the conflict. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found that only 25 percent of Americans considered the conflict worthwhile.
