Islamabad (HRNW)- While the government has been claiming progress toward ending Independent Power Producer (IPP) contracts, questions have emerged over the signing of new agreements extending for 30 to 40 years.
Details have surfaced regarding existing IPP agreements and their respective validity periods. It has also been revealed that the current government entered into new agreements with four IPPs, with the contracts finalized in 2025.
According to the available details, the government signed a 30-year agreement with the Jamshoro Coal Power Plant on July 30, 2025.
The development has raised questions about the government’s policy toward long-term IPP agreements amid its stated efforts to reduce the burden of power-sector contracts.
