Karachi (HRNW) – Representatives of women lawyers from Sindh met with the Chief Justice of Pakistan at the Supreme Court Karachi Registry. The meeting was also attended by the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court and office-bearers of the Karachi Bar Association and Sindh High Court Bar Association.
According to an official statement, the Chief Justice of Pakistan presented his vision for the development of women-friendly judicial infrastructure during the meeting.
The Chief Justice stated that, under the decision of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee, the year 2026–27 has been declared the Year of Facilitation for Women Litigants.
He said that Women Facilitation Centres will be established in courts across the country to provide women litigants with a safe, dignified, and accessible judicial environment.
According to the statement, these centres will ensure privacy, security, convenience, and easier access to judicial services for women. The facilities will include:
- Reception areas and waiting lounges.
- Separate entry points for women.
- Standard washroom facilities.
- Mediation and alternative dispute resolution services.
- Private consultation rooms, legal assistance, and legal guidance.
- Psychological support and coordination facilities with relevant institutions.
- Safe and dignified meeting arrangements for women litigants and visitors.
The statement added that under the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, the Institute of Architects Pakistan conducted a nationwide design competition for Women Facilitation Centres, and the best three designs have been selected.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan said that the selected designs will be provided to all High Courts as model designs for establishing such centres across the country.
During the meeting, representatives of women lawyers thanked the Chief Justice for prioritizing facilities for women litigants. They also highlighted various issues related to access to justice and the legal profession.
According to the statement, the Chief Justice assured the representatives that their concerns would be addressed on a priority basis. Progress on these issues will be made after consultations with the relevant High Courts and other institutions.
