Karachi (HRNW)- Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) “Super Long March” against the petroleum levy has departed Karachi for Islamabad by train, led by JI Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman and Karachi Emir Munem Zafar Khan.
The march departed from Karachi Cantt Station aboard the Rehman Baba Express. Addressing participants at the station, Hafiz Naeem said the departure was part of the party’s planned strategy to take its protest to Islamabad.
Hafiz Naeem said people were facing serious financial difficulties due to government policies and claimed that members of the middle class were increasingly struggling to meet their basic needs.
He reiterated JI’s demand for the abolition of the petroleum levy, describing it as an unfair additional charge. He also criticized the government’s reliance on global market prices as a justification for increases in petroleum prices.
The JI emir said the party would continue its campaign against the levy and seek relief for the public through its planned march in Islamabad.
Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami had staged a sit-in outside the Governor House in Karachi for 35 days in protest against the petroleum levy. The sit-in was called off on Saturday before the long march began.
