Islamabad (HRNW) – A report released by the non-governmental organization Sahil has revealed that 3,172 cases of violence against women were reported across Pakistan during the first six months of 2026 (January to June), highlighting serious concerns regarding women’s safety, protection, and fundamental human rights.
According to the report, women faced multiple forms of violence during the first half of 2026. The reported cases include:
- 644 cases of women being murdered.
- 514 cases of physical violence against women.
- 462 cases of kidnapping of women.
- 363 cases of women’s suicides.
- 280 cases of sexual violence and abuse.
- 132 cases of honour killings.
The report further stated that 18 cases of violence against transgender persons were also reported during the same period.
The age-wise analysis presented by Sahil showed that violence affected young women and girls significantly. According to the report, 334 reported cases involved women aged between 21 and 30 years, while 306 cases involved girls aged between 11 and 20 years who became victims of violence.
A particularly alarming aspect of the report is that 54 percent of gender-based violence cases occurred inside the victims’ own homes, indicating that many women continue to face threats in places that are expected to provide safety and protection.
Human rights activists have emphasized that preventing violence against women requires stronger implementation of laws, effective accountability mechanisms, protection services for survivors, and increased public awareness.
The protection of women’s rights is not only a social responsibility but also a fundamental human rights obligation. State institutions, civil society organizations, and communities must work together to create an environment where women can live with dignity, equality, and security.
