Washington (HRNW)- An investigation has been launched against a Secret Service officer associated with US Vice President JD Vance’s security team. The officer is accused of passing sensitive information about the vice president’s travel arrangements to the media.
US Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed in a statement that an administrative investigation is underway against a member of the vice president’s security unit, while a criminal investigation may also be initiated.
According to the spokesman, the officer is accused of violating operational and information security regulations. He said that any activity that could jeopardize the security of a high-ranking official will not be tolerated.
The matter came to light after a US broadcaster published a report that Vice President JD Vance had been requesting certain personal travel arrangements from his security team, which some officials were expressing displeasure over.
According to the report, these requests also included an incident in which JD Vance allegedly wanted to take his son to a secure golf course for golf training by military helicopter.
According to media reports, a proposal was under consideration to use a helicopter called Marine Two for this purpose. Marine Two is the official helicopter used for the travel of the US Vice President.
However, the flight was later canceled due to bad weather and thunderstorms and the plan could not take shape.
So far, there has been no detailed response to this report from JD Vance’s office, while the Secret Service has refrained from commenting further until the investigation is complete.
According to political observers, this matter raises important questions not only about the use of government resources but also about the disclosure of sensitive security information.
