ISLAMABAD (HRNW): The Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Nazir Ahmed, has characterized the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) report on corruption in Pakistan as biased and inappropriate. In an informal conversation with senior journalists, the Chairman expressed a loss of confidence in the IMF, stating that the organization has been given excessive access and is now interfering in internal matters that are unsuitable.
Chairman NAB noted that while the report contained some positive remarks regarding the bureau, he has decided not to take it seriously as the overall impression is not in the country’s best interest. He further asserted that public trust in reports from Transparency International is also lacking, suggesting that the IMF, World Bank, and Transparency International act as a “triad” to create a specific atmosphere against certain nations.
Record Recoveries and Data Discrepancies
According to NAB officials, the data used in the IMF report is inaccurate. To counter these claims, the bureau highlighted significant financial achievements for the first quarter of 2026:
-
Total Recovery: NAB achieved a record recovery of 2.962 trillion rupees in Q1 2026.
-
Year-on-Year Growth: This recovery is 33 times higher than the amount recovered during the same period last year.
-
Land Recovery: Over 2,950 billion rupees worth of land was reclaimed under land recovery initiatives.
-
Direct Recovery: An additional 11.085 billion rupees were secured through direct recovery efforts.
