Helmand (HRNW)- Taliban forces in Afghanistan’s Helmand province have arrested a 13-year-old girl, identified as Nooria, for allegedly disguising herself as a male to seek employment and support her family. Foreign media reports indicate that Nooria had been working at a local café for the past three years under the male identity of “Noor Ahmad” to navigate the restrictive environment and economic hardships facing women in the region.
The case came to light after a video of the young girl went viral on social media, where she explained the desperate circumstances that led to her decision. Following the death of her father, Nooria became the sole breadwinner for her family. Facing extreme poverty and limited options for female employment, she began wearing men’s clothing and adopting a male persona to secure a job.
