Lahore (HRNW)- The fifth round of negotiations between Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the government over various demands, including the abolition of the petroleum levy, ended without a breakthrough as the government requested postponement of the party’s long march, citing security concerns.
The talks were held on Saturday evening at JI headquarters in Mansoora, Lahore. The government delegation included Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Senator Rana Sanaullah, and Punjab Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique.
Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by Deputy Emir Liaqat Baloch, Acting Secretary General Nazir Ahmed Janjua, Special Assistant Umair Idrees, JI Lahore Emir Ziauddin Ansari, and Information Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Turabi.
During the meeting, the government delegation asked Jamaat-e-Islami to postpone its planned long march, citing security-related concerns.
The negotiations focused on the party’s various demands, with the complete abolition of the petroleum levy remaining among its key demands.
However, the fifth round concluded without a final agreement, and further discussions may be held to address the outstanding issues between the two sides.
