Medicine Theft Worth Over Rs1.5 Million Uncovered at Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital

Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW) — A major medicine theft incident has been uncovered at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), the city’s largest government hospital, where drugs worth approximately Rs1.5 million were reportedly being stolen. An FIR has been registered against those involved.

According to hospital sources, a member of the emergency department staff was caught attempting to smuggle out large quantities of hospital medicines in a van. Security guards, acting on suspicion, intercepted the vehicle and apprehended the suspects red-handed, subsequently handing them over to the hospital police post.

The hospital administration filed a complaint, after which a formal case was registered. Officials suspect that the theft may have been part of an ongoing network, with medicines being stolen from the hospital over a long period.

The recovered drugs are estimated to be worth around Rs1.5 million, and investigations are underway to identify all individuals involved in the theft ring.
