Karachi (HRNW)– In a significant security operation, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and local police successfully rescued 14 civilians abducted by armed criminal elements in Ghotki district of interior Sindh. The incident underscores persistent threats to civilian safety in rural areas and highlights the critical role of law enforcement in protecting vulnerable populations.
According to official reports, the abduction occurred on the night of 15 December 2025, when armed individuals intercepted a passenger bus traveling from Sadiqabad to Quetta near the Ubauro area. 18 passengers were forcibly removed from the bus, reflecting ongoing risks faced by ordinary citizens during intercity travel.

Following the abduction, Pakistan Rangers and police coordinated an immediate search and rescue operation, establishing checkpoints along access routes to the riverine forest (katcha) areas known for harboring criminal gangs. The operation led to the safe recovery of 14 hostages, while one passenger was found deceased, with preliminary indications suggesting a natural cause rather than physical abuse. Three other passengers reportedly escaped independently.
Authorities confirmed that the operation targeted criminal networks operating in the area, including the Andhar and Lathani Bakhshani gangs, whose activities have repeatedly endangered civilians. Human rights advocates note that such criminal incidents highlight structural vulnerabilities in remote regions and call for sustained protection measures for citizens.
The Rangers have appealed to local communities to report individuals who shelter or support criminals, emphasizing that all information provided through official channels will remain confidential. They reiterated the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding civilians’ rights to life and security.
Human rights organizations underscore that incidents of abduction and violence against civilians constitute serious violations of personal security and dignity and call on authorities to implement preventive measures, strengthen local policing, and ensure rapid responses to such threats.
