Lahore (HRNW) — Prices of vegetables, meat and flour have increased in several cities across Pakistan, adding to the financial pressure on households. In some markets, food items are reportedly being sold above officially notified rates.
In Lahore, consumers are reportedly being forced to purchase vegetables at higher prices despite official rate lists. The official price of onions is Rs195 per kilogram, but they are being sold for around Rs200 per kilogram in the market. Tomatoes have an official rate of Rs150 per kilogram, while capsicum is being sold at Rs280, bitter gourd at Rs220, and cauliflower at Rs180 per kilogram.
In Faisalabad, meat prices have also increased. Beef is reportedly being sold for Rs1,500 per kilogram against the official rate of Rs1,150, while mutton has reached Rs3,000 per kilogram, compared with the official price of Rs2,100.
In Peshawar, flour prices have also risen, with the price of a 20-kilogram bag increasing by Rs100. A 20kg bag of fine flour is now reportedly being sold for Rs3,150.
Meanwhile, vegetable prices have also increased in Quetta. Tomatoes have become Rs40 per kilogram more expensive, onions by Rs20, and okra by Rs30 per kilogram. The price of peas has also reportedly increased by Rs50 per kilogram.
