UNICEF is warning of worsening child nutrition conditions in Haiti after a national survey found that about one in 13 children aged 6 months to 5 years is suffering from acute malnutrition.
The 2026 National Nutrition SMART Survey found that global acute malnutrition among children aged 6–59 months increased from 5.1 per cent in 2023 to 7.4 per cent in 2026.
UNICEF said prolonged insecurity, economic hardship and humanitarian needs are restricting families’ access to nutritious food, healthcare and nutrition services.
The agency is working with Haiti’s Ministry of Public Health and partners to expand screening and treatment through community health workers and mobile teams, while warning that its nutrition response faces a funding gap of more than 64 per cent.
