WHO Calls for More Scientific Research Into Traditional Medicine

The World Health Organization is calling for stronger scientific research into traditional, complementary and integrative medicine, as billions of people around the world continue to use such forms of healthcare.

WHO said there are significant gaps in evidence and research capacity and called for stronger scientific approaches to evaluate traditional medicine, including its safety, effectiveness and quality.

The agency’s latest call comes as health systems seek ways to respond to growing healthcare needs while ensuring that treatments used by patients are supported by reliable evidence.

WHO is encouraging countries and researchers to strengthen research, regulation and knowledge-sharing in this area.
