The UN World Food Programme is warning that South Sudan is facing a rapidly worsening humanitarian situation, with conflict, climate shocks and funding shortages putting pressure on food assistance operations.

WFP said the combination of growing humanitarian needs and reduced resources is making it increasingly difficult to maintain assistance for vulnerable communities.

The agency has warned that without additional support, large numbers of people could face interruptions to essential food assistance as hunger and displacement continue to rise.

The latest warning comes as WFP and other UN agencies call for greater investment in South Sudan to prevent further deterioration of food security and strengthen resilience.
