Iran Claims US MQ-1 Drone Shot Down Near Strait of Hormuz

Tehran (HRNW)- Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that its air defense forces intercepted and shot down a US MQ-1 drone near the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iranian news agencies, Iranian officials said their air defense system detected the drone, targeted it, and subsequently destroyed it in the strategically important maritime region.

The claim comes amid continued tensions between Iran and the United States and heightened military and naval activity around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for international energy shipments.

There has been no immediate independent confirmation of the Iranian claim. Reports that a US MQ-1 drone was shot down are therefore being treated as Iran’s account of the incident pending further verification.

The development could further raise tensions in and around the Strait of Hormuz, where increased military activity has already prompted international concern over maritime security and regional stability.
