Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump has said there is no likelihood that the ongoing conflict with Iran will continue until the end of his current presidential term.
According to US media reports, Trump believes the dispute will not last long enough to extend through the remainder of his presidency. He has previously said that the conflict would end immediately after the US midterm elections scheduled for November.
However, some senior White House officials have privately expressed concerns that the conflict could become prolonged. A Wall Street Journal report said Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have warned Trump that Iran could continue resisting US pressure, potentially extending the conflict until the end of his term.
Trump, meanwhile, maintains that Iran will not be able to withstand US pressure for long. He has said the primary objective of the conflict is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The conflict has intensified military tensions in the Middle East while also placing significant pressure on global energy markets. Oil prices have recently risen above $100 per barrel amid disruptions to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and attacks across the region.
The contrasting assessments have highlighted a clear gap between Trump’s confidence that the conflict will end quickly and concerns among some US officials that the confrontation could continue for an extended period.
