Lahore (HRNW) — A suspected kidnapping case in Manawan has taken a dramatic turn after police investigation allegedly revealed that the purported victim had staged his own abduction to obtain money from his in-laws.
According to DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, a woman had reported to police that her husband, Taimoor, had allegedly been kidnapped and that Rs. 1.5 million in ransom had been demanded for his release.
A video allegedly showing Taimoor tied with ropes had also surfaced. Taking notice of the incident, the DIG Operations assigned SP Cantt a special task to recover the alleged victim.
According to the Operations Wing spokesperson, Manawan Police traced Taimoor to Faisalabad. During the investigation, police allegedly discovered that the entire kidnapping incident had been staged.
Police said Taimoor allegedly planned the fake abduction to obtain money from his in-laws and reportedly sent videos of his alleged kidnapping to his wife.
The arrested suspect has been handed over to the Investigation Wing for further investigation and legal proceedings.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said that prompt action on citizens’ complaints and timely assistance to affected individuals remain among the police’s top priorities.
He said protecting the life and property of citizens is a fundamental responsibility of the police and urged citizens to contact police immediately in any emergency.
