Skardu (HRNW): Rescue authorities have recovered the bodies of eight mountaineers who went missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak, the world’s 12th-highest mountain, while search and rescue operations continue for two others who remain unaccounted for.
According to rescue officials, four additional bodies were located during the latest phase of the operation, bringing the total number of recovered victims to eight. Of the four bodies recovered in the morning, three have been airlifted by helicopter to Skardu, while efforts continue to transport the remaining body.
Authorities said search and rescue teams remain deployed on Broad Peak despite the extreme weather conditions, difficult terrain, and high-altitude challenges. The operation is ongoing to locate the two missing mountaineers.
Broad Peak, located in the Karakoram mountain range, is one of the world’s highest peaks and is known for its harsh weather, avalanche risks, and challenging climbing conditions, making rescue operations particularly difficult.
