Islamabad (HRNW): Pakistan’s Minister for Defence, Khawaja Asif, has acknowledged that differences exist between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), but stated that there are currently no indications that the existing government setup is about to end.
Speaking during an interview with a private television channel, Khawaja Asif said he fully endorses the statement made by the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR). However, he noted that there is a difference between the statements of the Interior Minister and the DG ISPR, adding that the Interior Minister’s remarks also carry a political dimension. He further observed that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has been associated with the current system for approximately three and a half years.
The Defence Minister stated that, under the present circumstances, the success of the country’s hybrid governance system is essential for stability. He said that having served in various governments over the years, he accepts his share of responsibility. Referring to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khawaja Asif argued that Nawaz Sharif had delivered during his previous terms in office.
Khawaja Asif further stated that he does not hold state institutions responsible but believes that responsibility should rest with individuals, whether they belong to the political leadership or the establishment of that time.
