Islamabad (HRNW) – An audit report has identified alleged irregularities in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), recommending a comprehensive investigation and the determination of responsibility for questionable payments recorded under the social welfare scheme.
According to the audit report, more than 450 men allegedly changed their gender information in official records to be registered as women in order to receive financial assistance. As a result, payments exceeding Rs. 7.641 million were reportedly disbursed to these beneficiaries.
The report further states that more than 7,000 unmarried women were allegedly recorded as married in the programme’s database, resulting in payments of over Rs. 104.7 million.
The audit highlights discrepancies in beneficiary records and payment processes and recommends a detailed inquiry to determine how these irregularities occurred, identify those responsible, and recover any losses if wrongdoing is established.
As of now, the findings contained in the audit report have not been conclusively established through any final investigation or judicial proceedings, and the relevant authorities have yet to announce the outcome of any official inquiry.
